My name is danah boyd. In addition to being an expert on social media, I am a doctoral student in the School of Information at the University of California-Berkeley and a fellow at the Harvard University Berkman Center for Internet and Society. For more information, see: My research focuses on youth culture and social media. I have researched participation in social network sites (Friendster, MySpace, Facebook, etc.), blogging, tagging, sharing, remixing, and other practices that emerge in online communities. I regularly present at a variety of academic and industry conferences (e.g., SIGGRAPH, Etech, SXSW, Le Web, Blogher, etc.). I am a regular press expert on social media for various media outlets and have been profiled in the New York Times, Financial Times, San Francisco Magazine, and San Francisco Chronicle. I have advised a wide variety of companies on social media, including Yahoo!, Google, Tribe.net, and Intel. I am sporadically available for a limited amount of consulting and speaking. Contact me for my dayrate. Sadly, I am unable to do pro bono corporate work right now. |
